Treyarch, the same
people behind the game Triple Play 2000.
They're the people at work on what could
possibly be one of the biggest hits for
the Dreamcast. This game isn't Triple
Play 2001. Reviewers and previewers have
mostly given this game a good name.
What's this game? Draconus: Cult of the
Wyrm, probably the first sword fighting
medival type game for DC. Some have
called this game a DC version of Dungeons
of Dragons, some have called this game a
sequel to legendary Genesis game, Golden
Axe.
Draconus was supposedly
a sequel to Die by the Sword, and was
going to be released by Interplay around
the Christmas time. But Interplay went
through some changes, and the game got
delayed. So Crave picked up the game,
this could be a very smart move by Crave,
who could soon be one of the most famous
DC publishers. They're also the people
publishing Tony Hawk Pro Skater for DC.
The delay by Interplay
was a good thing for Treyarch, because
before this, Draconus was running at a
stunning low of 5 - 15 frames per second.
Yes you heard right, this isn't one of my
typing mistakes. Now, the game runs a
solid 30 frames per second, and time to
time it will jump to 60 frames per
second. During this time, Treyarch has
also made some changes in the control to
make it more easier for the users.
They've made the menus and maps easier to
use, and they've made it easier to pull
of spells in the game.
The graphics in the
game is amazing, and its amazingly creepy
to. The backgrounds in the game in the
outdoor areas are mostly dark, foggy, and
creepy. Click on image 1 and you'll know
what I'm talking about. The creepiness is
probably worse than Legacy of Kain. Which
was probably one of the best
action/adventure games for DC at the
moment.
Draconus comes with 15
levels, each with great lighting affects,
and a very creepy looking stages. There
are around 30 mad bosses to fight from
the Insect Queen to the Dragon Lord.
You'll have a chance to choose between
playing as a warrior or a corceress. Each
character has his own fighting style and
abilities.
Draconus: Cult of the
Wyrm is looking to be a classical game
indeed. If you love slasher games like
Golden Axe, or Dungeons of Dragons, or
even Legacy of Kain, you will love this
game. The graphics are very good from
what I've seen, and the gameplay equally
matches the graphics.
