Konami can use ESPN's
connections to athlete's, announcers, web sites,
television and radio. Konami expects to make 10
games under the ESPN name for PC and Dreamcast.
Konami intends to make a full line of games from
basketball, baseball, hockey, football, and so
on. No word on how Disney is going to help out.
But don't expect Mickey Mouse Hockey.
So far two games have been
announced under the ESPN name. ESPN NBA Tonight
and ESPN Baseball Tonight have been announced and
are expected to be released in April 11th and
16th in North America. Expect Konami to annnouce
ESPN Hockey Tonight and ESPN NFL Tonight sometime
before the basketball and baseball games are
released.
This preview will be on ESPN
NBA Tonight, the second game that will give NBA
2K a run for the money. Well, actually the first
NBA game to really compete with NBA 2K. NBA
Showtime was totally an arcade kind of game. Like
NFL 2K and NFL Blitz 2000. ESPN NBA Tonight isn't
a sequel to those really crappy Konami sport
games.
Konami has revealed that there
will be over 1000 player animations, 25 different
dunks, 75 different player animations, a
create-a-player mode and play by play from ESPN's
Brent Musburger and Stuart Scott.
The graphics aren't quite up to
par compared to NBA 2K, but still much better
than NBA Showtime. But the facial animations look
very close to NBA 2K.
One of the negatives I
instantly noticed was the roster. If I'm not
mistaken the Antonio Davis image(image 7)shows
him with the Indiana Pacers. We all know he's
with the Toronto Raptors. The trade happened
nearly a year ago, so they better have an up to
date roster when released.
Overall, ESPN NBA Tonight does
look quite impressive. But how will it compare to
NBA 2K or even NBA Live 2000. The graphics could
be better comparing to these pictures. I know
this seems like very little info, but as more
come in, you'll get it.
