The Sega Dreamcast already has two Indy racing games, Sega's CART Flag to Flag and Ubi Soft's Monaco Grand Prix. Both games were failures, with bad graphics, and sound, the games was just not fun. Well maybe Monaco Grand Prix did, but Flag to Flag was pretty good. CART Flag to Flag used official CART drivers from the 1998 season, including Alex Zanardi, Paul Tracy, Greg Moore, and about 25 other drivers. CART Flag to Flag also used official tracks, and sponsors, and was more like a simulation game. But the game didn't have much action. If you hit another car's tires, nothing happened. Unlike Monaco Grand Prix, where there was tons of real life looking crashes. The game was more fun than CART Flag to Flag, but the graphics weren't very good, the sound was awful and it was hard to control the cars in simulation mode. The game didn't use real Formula 1 drivers, or sponsors. The tracks were the only real thing. Both games were overall boring.
But Video Systems Formula 1 World Grand Prix is totally different. It has all the F1 licensing with the official drivers, sponsers, teams, etc from the 1998. The game has promised TV like replays, smooth 60 frames per second graphics, and much more. Video System has said that F1 World Grand Prix will be the most accurate motor sport game ever seen on a console.
F1 World Grand Prix is a very realistic Formula 1 simulation. With realistic F1 car phyics, and the realistic bumping and crashes. One of the cool thing is the The game also has actual terrain, for example if the car goes over a bump, the car will loose a bit of control. The game uses all the real F1 rules, so you can get penalized for hitting another car or for just screwing around on the track. Another cool thing is you'll have a chance to modify the cars before the race.
Video Systems have gone through a lot of trouble to make this game as real as possible. They actually watched every F1 race in the 1998, and went through weather records to find out what type of weather it was during a certain race. F1 World Grand Prix will have a 6 modes to choose from: Grand Prix, Exhibition, Challenge, Time Trial, Single Race, and Two Player. Grand Prix is the main mode in the racing in a full season. Exhibiton is sort of like a practice mode. Challenge mode allows you to compare your race times with the actual times of the 1998 season. Time Trial, Single Race, and Two-Player speak for them selves as you can notice.
F1 World Grand Prix promises to be a very good Formula 1 simulation game. I think they could've added some stuff like powersliding found in Monaco GP 2 and the 1999 season drivers and teams. But I think I'm going to hold it of for a secret game Ubi Soft and Video System is working on. This secret game is set to release in Japan in March. But I know a lot of people have been waiting for this game after the failure of CART Flag to Flag and Monaco Grand Prix 2. So, its still a quality game, and it is worth buying.
