Eidos has just recently come out say that they're a big supporter for the Dreamcast, and will bring more games. Fighting Force 2 was the first DC game, then a few days after the release of FF2, Eidos said they'll make a DC conversion of Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver. Then around mid January, Eidos made the surprise announcement they'll be bringing the last chapter of Tomb Raider for the Dreamcast. What else can we expect to see on the Dreamcast from Eidos?
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver is just one of many newly released and upcoming third-person action horror games for the Dreamcast. We all know about Blue Stinger from Activision, Zombie Revenge from Sega, Shadowman from Acclaim, and upcoming games Carrier and Resident Evil: Code Veronica from Jaleco and Capcom. Soul Reaver was a big hit on the Playstation, but how can it stand up againts all these other amazing games?
Well for starters, the game runs at a smooth 60 frames per second. The games is an action packed with thrills and frills. The graphics are amazing, and the voice over actually matches the moment of the mouth. The texture effects in the game makes it look really neat. Overall, the graphics are one of the best I seen on a DC game.
Like in any action horror game, the environment is dark and scary. With great fog effects, and detail to the environments. Unlike the PSX version, where the fog effects were to hide the low frames per second. But now, they have a system that can handle the smooth frame rate. The fog effects looke very realistic.
In the game, you'll start off by playing as Raziel, and a lieutenant to Kain, the vampire lord. Raziel served Kain for nearly a millenium, but he never met Kain's expectations. Kain sentences Raziel to death in the Lake of Lost Souls. One day, Raziel wakes up battered, and weak, suddenly hears a voice. The voice tells Raziel his goal, to kill Kain. Now your off to kill that damn Kain.
Like any action game, there's a boss. But these bosses aren't very easy, using your most powerful weapons won't kill them. The bosses might fustrate you after a while, but it takes a while to get used to it.
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver is without a doubt, and must buy game. I know a lot of people wanted Eidos to bring Tomb Raider to the Dreamcast. After they made the surprise announcement, they said the game will come out around Spring 2000. If you can't wait, get this game, the graphics, and action is very similar to Tomb Raider. Well, this game should attract any kind of player. Its just one of the best games for the Dreamcast. You won't regret buying this game. For $40 bucks, this is a bargain price. There's a lot of good games coming out around February and March 2000, and this game should be somewhere in your top 5 of must buy games.
Never ever let your little brother or sister under 10 play this game. They'll get nightmares, then you'll be trouble with your parents. Believe me, this game will scare the hell out of them.
