Capcom is mostly known for its
famous fighting games like Street Fighter and
survival games like Resident Evil. The company
has been around since the late 80's. But it
wasn't till Street Fighter I came to the Genesis
did anybody know about Capcom. The game was a big
hit even though around the same time Mortal
Kombat was released for the Genesis. The success
of Street Fighter and its sequels made Capcom one
of the biggest gaming developers/publishers in
the world. Capcom is known mostly for fighting
games like Street Fighter. Soon, Capcom got
competition from other developers and publishers
with games like Eternal Champions (for the 32X),
Mortal Kombat 3, and others. So, Capcom tried a
new path to attract more gamers to their games.
Games like X-men vs. Street Fighter and Marvel
vs. Capcom. Both games hade the fast-paced combo
hitting action.
Marvel vs. Capcom was a big
hit on the arcades and Dreamcast, so why
shouldn't Capcom make a sequel. Most people have
given the game a positive response(like myself),
but there are people who hate the fast-paced
game. Guess its to fast for them, but its fine
for me.
Capcom has made lots of
gameplay changes, like now, you can play with
three fighters in the screen at once. The game is
reported to game a variable combination system
allowing three of the fighters to do a massive
combo hit at once. Meaning, you can do a 350 hit
combo, or even a 100 hit combo. The game is all
about combo's baby. Another cool thing is that
instead of doing the combos at once, you can do
it one after another. Meaning after one character
does his combo, and character can come up and do
his combo followed by the third character. This
is all done by a new fighting system called the
Delayed Hyper Combo System.
Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of
Heroes will come with around 50 playable
fighters, including Jill Valentine from Resident
Evil 3. Most of the new fighters are from
Capcom's side, with Ruby Heart, Hayat, Akuma, Jin
Saotome, and some others who I can't remember.
Here's a list of all the fighters that have been
announced so far (February 9, 2000): Jill
Valentine, Psylock, Rogue, Wolverine without
Adamantium, Tron, Sakura, Shumagorath, Magneto,
Wolverine, Gambit, Juggernaut, Bulletta, Captain
Commando, Morrigan, Akuma, Jin Saotome, Ryu,
Zangief, and Strider, Ruby Heart, Hayat, Venom,
and Captain America.
In the Dreamcast version, you
can use these fighters and many more in 6
different modes. Arcade Mode, VS Mode, Training
Mode, Option mode, Network Battle, and Score
attack. Yep, you heard right, Network Battle,
Marvel vs. Capcom 2 will be the first game to use
Capcom's new online capabilities.
Capcom has dropped the 2 on 2
battle system, and replaced it with a 3 on 3
battle system. Each fighter can be swapped
between the fight. Or like I said above, you can
do hyper combos with each of the characters at
once or one after another.
Unlike the other Capcom
fighting games, the buttons are layed out
differently for Marvel vs. Capcom 2. The top
three buttons are for (from left to right)weak
punch, fierce punch, assist 1(switch to different
fighter). The bottom three from left to right are
weak kick, fierce kickm, and assist 2 (switch to
a different fighter). If you want to do a medium
attack, you'll have to press the weak attack
buttons twice. The arcade machine will run on a
Dreamcast-Naomi board. In the arcade version,
there will be a VMU slot, so you can switch the
data from the arcade version to the DC version.
Get this, the arcade version
could arrive as soon as March, and the Dreamcast
version just in time for the PSX 2 launch. You
can bet your money that I'll be playing the game
everyday at the arcade center after the release. |
