Time to time there's a
very odd game coming out for certain
systems. For example Parappa for PSX, but
it was an unexpected hit. Vivarium took a
big risk with an odd virtual life
simulation called Seaman. It wasn't an
instant hit, it took a while for the game
to catch on. People weren't expecting
anything out of this game, they just
considered it another simulation game.
Only a few hundred people actually bought
the game when it was launched. The next
week, the game's in third place in
Japanese sales. It stayed there for about
three weeks, then it slowly started to
drop to 5th, then 7th, the 8th, finally
after about 6 six weeks, it dropped out
of the top 10.
Today, its around 5
months since the game was originally
launch, and its still in the top 30. In
the last weeks of January, it came in 22
of 30, selling around 22,000 copies for a
total very close to beating Shenmue.
After Sega of America finally announced
the game will come to North America and
Europe in December, it was one of the
most anticipated games of Spring 2000.
But sadly, SOA delayed the game to make
some changes.
This is the first game
to use Sega's new peripheral, the
Microphone. Without the microphone, you
can't play the game. Would Seaman have
been so much fun if Sega never made the
microphone? I don't think so.
The point of the game
is a bit complicated at first. Its sort
of like Virtua Fighter 3TB, the game
isn't a lot of fun until you master it.
You'll start of looking at a fish tank
with six eggs. By pressing one of the
buttons, you'll tap the eggs, and
suddenly they'll begin to hatch. Then,
you'll see a small face with a fishes
body. You'll have to teach the little
fishes english, by teaching them the
alphabets, and all that. In a few days,
the Seaman will start asking you
questions like who are you? where am I?
how old are you? well, you get the point.
I got very little to
say about this game because I don't have
much info on this game. I'm pretty sure
it'll be a big thing in North America
because now a days, what ever's a success
in Japan is sure to be a success in North
America. Just hope they bring the Seaman
Dreamcasts to North America. |
