Infogrames is probably
the biggest third-party Dreamcast
publisher/developer supporter, they've
made and published around 5 games.
Saddly, most of their games were crap,
most of them were very anticipated, but
only 1 of them lived up to the standards.
That game was not Slave Zero, it was Test
Drive 6. But I expect good things from
Infogrames soon, UEFA Stricker looks very
promising so far, Silver is supposedly
very similar to Final Fantasy, and
V-Rally, has 4 times the tracks and cars
that Sega Rally 2.
Slave Zero the first
mech action game for the Dreamcast, was a
very anticipated game. Especially since
it was rumored to have online gaming. But
Infogrames cancelled that after Sega
announced online gaming won't began till
Spring 2000. This forced Infogrames to
delay the game for a month. Another sad
thing about this game is that it was
directly ported from the PC version. When
meant very crappy graphics.
Slave Zero is very
similar to Heavy Gear, and has all the
things a mech action game should have.
Lots and lots of action. Everywhere you
go, there is some sort of enemy shooting
at you. The bad thing is because of the
blurry graphics, its very hard to see
your enemy. The enemy will keep shooting
at you and you won't notice.
I've been talking bad
about the game all this time, but there
are a lot of good things about the game.
From the tons of action, to the
impressive sense of scale. As soon as you
start the game, you'll see your first
enemy. Get a good aim and shoot a bomb at
him. As you go deeper into the game, the
enemy might come after you when you least
expect it, or sometimes they'll run away
from you and wait for you to come. If
your thinking you can just shoot the
enemy and run away, you are so wrong.
This game has a very good AI, the enemies
will move around trying to dodge your
shots. Another good thing is the cool
sense of scale, since your a mech, your
suppose to be this huge guy. But time to
time you'll see very tiny people walking
by you. The game is also very long, as
soon as you finish a stage, you'll have
to get through lots of tough bosses.
These bosses are tough!
Unless your a mech
fan, who has a copy of Heavy Gear I &
II or all the Mech Warrior games, don't
buy Slave Zero. Well, this game might be
pretty fun on computer with online
gaming, but on DC, is game sucks. Rent
this game and try it first, if you plan
to buy it. Its better off if you wait for
Gundam Side Story 0079, now that is a
good mech game.
