Capcom is one of the largest publishers and developers in the world, they are also big fans of Sega. So why shouldn't they make games for the Dreamcast? They are expecting to release around 10 fighting and action games for the Dreamcast in the year 2000. Two of them are something different from the other Capcom fighters. Capcom is used to making odd fighting games, like a mech warrior type of fighting. But that all changed with Tech Romancer(Kikaioh) and Plasma Sword(Star Gladiator 2). Both games were considered 1999's sleeper hit fighting game.
This game has been out on arcades for quite a while now, but very few people know about the game. Go back to the time when you went to the arcade center to play Soul Calibur or Crazy Taxi. Now do you remember a odd mech armor fighting game? You know, the one that nobody played? Well, that game was Tech Romancer. For those people who played this game, I'm pretty sure you loved the game. Like most people I didn't play Tech Romancer at my arcade center, because the game looked so wierd. I would just go on and play Crazy Taxi, Soul Calibur, Marvel vs. Capcom or some other game.
So what's the big deal about this game you ask? Well, first of all, the damage meter is one thing you'll instantly notice in the gameplay. The damage meter is one the vertical ends of the screen. I really shouldn't be calling it a damage meter, because instead of decreasing when you get hit, it increases until it is filled up. When its at the top, you or your oppenant loses the battle. Still confused? Well so am I. It gets more confusing, if you stand back and wait, a yellow part of "damage meter" will show up. This means the mech is getting repaired, but here's the tricky part. If you get hit while being repaired, the yellow part turns into a hit.
Since your a 500 ton cyberbot, in a city, you can step on little houses or buildings, or you can just shoot them. Some of the houses or buildings will have items that can be found after crushing the apartment or building. Some of the weapons include, damage repair units, defense and offense upgrades, weapon upgrades, and speed upgrades.
The controls on Tech Romancer is pretty simple to learn, there is one button for guard, two to attack your oppenant, and another for jumping. Using these buttons, you can create amazing combo's and super moves. Using a combination of the buttons, you can even dodge the oppenant. You'll be doing all this using a huge cyberbot or Mech fighter.
This isn't really a very anticipated game, but things might change. After all, sites like IGN, Dreamcast.net, Segaweb and other sites have given the japanese version of this game very good ratings.
